Which means I've made very little progress in the garden. Usually by this time of the year all my hanging baskets and balcony troughs have filled out and everywhere is looking colourful, ready for the summer.
I have to tell you I had most of my plants hardening off ready to go in the baskets and we had a severe frost overnight and it nipped the tops of most of the plants, , the weeds are growing like mad, they don't mind the frost.
Although I've been busy planting my baskets ready to hang when we get some warmer weather, I thought I'd wait awhile until they are worth showing you. So how would you like to see some of the things I saw on my trip to Denmark at the beginning of May.
If you've ever visited Denmark it would probably be Copenhagen , which is a beautiful city, however my son and his family live in the North of Denmark, so it was a family visit, with some sight seeing.
Bicycles in the nearby city of Aalborg.
We spent a lovely weekend at our daughter in laws parents
summerhouse on the North west coast.
we walked on to the cliffs and saw lots of birds.
I always love to visit this chateau, as it's so different from the ones I see in France.
These colourful houses are in the northern tip of Denmark
A familiar sight over Denmark.
Now we're back to where we started
nearby the local church.
Hope you enjoyed seeing some of Denmark from my visit.
and you'll join me again soon on my next trip .
.Until next time
Here's a taste of some of the things I loved seeing
and a few of my favourite places we went to.
After looking through the window on a rainy day, I could see that the Forsythia needed pruning.
and I know they don't have the time for jobs like this, so I went out with secatures.

Bikes can be seen everywhere.
I think even I would ride around on a bike if I lived there as it's so flat.
I loved this pink/white one I saw outside a super market with a wooden box on the front
for those small things we always forget when we do our weekly shopping.

This one looked so pretty with a large basket decorated with silk flowers.

Some of the flowers at the supermarket.
Which I thought were a better selection than I have here in France.

I just love the coast, even when it's windy
and as you can see so do my grandchildren.
we walked on to the cliffs and saw lots of birds.
Some of the Kittiwakes.
They build their nests on the very narrow ledges of the cliff.
I always love to visit this chateau, as it's so different from the ones I see in France.

This circular maze was amazing.
It was designed by a Dane and built from planks of wood.
It was an echo maze, the echo came back 4 minutes after the sound.
A familiar sight over Denmark.

nearby the local church.

This looks absolutely wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCan we go together and try riding bikes.
It does look very flat and safe and easy for beginner bikers.
So far I've only been in the airport in Copenhagen 2 times...
Lovely Photos! It was nice to have you here in May 😉 We've had some lovely warm sunny days this week, and the forsythia is looking good 😏 Have a nice Sunday
ReplyDeleteGood evening Barbara, You sound like you had fun visiting your family in Denmark. Oh, I did love the pink bike. When I lived in Germany (many moons ago) I used to ride around on a red bike with a wicker basket attached to the front and I loved it. I had it for years, then one day Natasha borrowed it to cycle to her 6th Form college, here in England, and do you know some little devil stole it. I used to park it outside shops in Germany and never had a problem. When the police found it, (as it was distinctive) it had been vandalized and really not worthy putting back together, which was sad.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see a little red post box.... I imagined they were just in England.
Barbara, I have to say, that is a lovely photo of you. I do hope the Forsythia takes as they are lovely bushes. Usually they flower around Easter (not this year) and I hang little Easter decorations on them when they are in bud. When they are brought indoors the flowers open quickly because of the warmth.
We live near the Northumberland coast, so I think I am going to go hunting for some stones with holes in as I loved the piece you showed us. It was such a good idea to alert you to the steps.
I know what you mean about hanging baskets.... I have decided not to even bother with annuals this year, as it is now June and the way the weather is behaving, well, I don't think they will grow very big. Fingers crossed your weather perks up as your garden is beautiful in the Summer.
Thank you for the trip to Denmark, it is a place I have never visited, but now I have had a taste of it thanks to you.
Take care,
Best Wishes
Daphne
I've only been to Copenhagen so I'm happy that you shared your trip. I should to be planting my tomatoes in Maine today but we are supposed to have high winds and 3 or 4 inches of rain over the weekend. Decisions, decisions. Gardening this time of the year can be hard.
ReplyDeleteDear Barbara - I did so enjoy my visit to Denmark - thank you for taking me along. That pink bicycle looks like a bike for me. What gorgeous pictures. I would love the walk you took along the harbor too. I can almost feel the mist upon my face. Hope your forsythia does take. Have a great day and I hope warmer weather is coming your way soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this tour, I feellike I was there! The houses and architecture are so different and beautiful! And YOU are adorable!!! Hoe your weather warms up SOON!!!! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteYou are living my dream life, you're SO lucky! and your photos are awesome. So glad I found your blog. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBarbara what a wonderful ride, loved seeing your photos and walk with you!
ReplyDeleteI liked the idea of the rope stone, show very different. Denmark is lovely, I would love to know.
A big kiss and a beautiful week for you.
I love your photos Barbara! And I'm sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I'm having the darnedest time trying to get your feed in my reader! I've emailed Bloglovin to see if they can help. Anyway, I thought that rock string is so interesting. I thought at first that they must have drilled holes in them, but how neat that they've been collecting them on the beach. And I also loved the echo maze. I've never seen anything like it. How fascinating! I've never been to Denmark, so I really enjoyed seeing the pictures from your trip. Have a lovely Sunday!

How are you? Come friend!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos Barbara of a lovely place. I do like that pebble cable..even if I don't have a step! I've been to Denmark about 8 years ago and loved ever minute. I can understand why it counts as a country where people are overall happy.?
