1 st. March Meteorologist Spring

When does Spring actually start ?

For me, it's when I see the flowers I associate with Spring, blooming in my garden.
So it's Spring in my garden it's arrived early this year.

According to the Meteorologist calender it's today the 1st March.
Take a look here to check
Then there's the  Astronomical seasons date which is 20th March 2016

Earth's axis and seasons

A few were nipped and didn't get to stand up straight
so I cut them and made them into a small display.

Just three daffodils and a little greenery from the garden
a few sprigs of Forsythia and catkins can make a pretty arrangements.

On the 1st March 1906 Edith Holden  wrote in her diary
March has come in like a lamb
with a warm wind
and rain from the south west.

Exactly like it has been here today 110 years later.
Full of such lovely illustrations.

Do you like Country Magazines. if that's a yes.
you'll love Country Living UK.

It's high on the list amongst my favourites, as it is with Mary from
 A Breath of Fresh Air,.
take a look at her latest post, she tears out pages and puts them on her fridge.
I keep some of my copies for several years
as you can see this one is 2013

For those of you that still have snow
I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of my Spring.

I'll hope you'll come back and visit me again.

à bientôt

  2. Hello Barbara - so nice to see that spring has arrived for you. We are about the same here in Washington State - I do believe we have similar climates. I love your pretty arrangement and it looks so sweet on your green checked cloth. I do love gingham! I have a subscription to Country Living here in the US - but it is not the same, although maybe the same parent company. I do have an addiction to pretty magazines. I have had to curtail my addiction somewhat, as it was getting out of hand (smile). I hope you are enjoying some time out in the garden. We are having a bit of strong wind and rain right now - a large Hemlock tree has broken off at the base and is caught up in some trees right over a small toolshed. Of course The Mr. is traveling....I'm hoping it stays put until we can get someone up to cut it. Truly looking forward to warmer temps and sunshine! Hugs xo Karen

  3. I enjoyed seeing your yellow daffodils brightening up my morning.
It is "March came in like a lion" for me . . .
Blizzard snow yesterday . . . cold and blustery . . .back on with the boots . .
The snow started around midnight on March 1, continued all day into the night.
The sun is peeking through the snowy trees right this minute though . . .
Keep posting pictures of your "flower pops!"
    Happy March Days . . .

  4. Spring arrangements are always the prettiest - so fresh, so bright, and so welcome after the darkness of winter.
I get an email every month from Ivy's Books in the village to let me know that County Living UK is being held for me at the counter. We get it rather late here, but it is always a treat. You wouldn't know, but Country Living UK is where I got my start in blogging. A little over 9 years ago the magazine held a contest for bloggers. I had no idea what blogging was but I entered the contest, got a blog site together and have gone on to have a lot of fun with it!

  5. Hello Barbara Lillian! Spring is so beautiful in your garden! I love the natural landscape. We have wonderful sunshine and weather, but not nearly enough rain to have the lush landscape that you have. The UK Country Living mag is one of my very favorites too! I do love the selection you have made of photos for your header! Just beautiful! I'm so glad you escaped more damage from your whirlwind! Your poor pergola. I'm so sorry for the trouble with fallen trees, but the shots of your grounds show how lovely a place you have there. I hope it is a beautiful spring for you!

  6. The daffodil is such an unusual looking flower, and so cheerful and pretty. It sticks its neck out to show the world its beauty. Yes, I love the Country Living magazine. Although I've never read the Country Living UK magazine. Maybe similar?

It's supposed to rain this weekend, and we sure need the rain.

    Happy March!

    love, ~Sheri

  7. Country Living UK is one of my favorite magazines. It's the only one I subscribe to - my husband gives it to me for a Christmas gift. I keep mine for several years, too. Your three daffodils make a beautiful, bright spot.

  8. Hello Barbara,

You must be happy that Spring has arrived there and love your sweet daffodil arrangement. I have the same book Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady - my Mother in law gave it me years ago for a birthday. The UK County Living Magazines are fabulous and occasionally I like to buy one.
    Happy weekend
    Hugs
    Carolyn

  9. Dear Barbara
I'm so happy for you - I agree Spring for me is when the grape hyacinths and snowdrops pop there heads through the soil! And it's when the lambs first appear on my walks through Cornwall Park!
I have back copies of Country Living I can't bare to part with also! There is so much inspiration within those pages.
Happy Birthday to Mr F! My husbands birthday is on the 12th and mine is 19th - all March hares!
Have fun with the young ones - I agree they are such good company!
My friends nephew invited us for drinks last night - a good mix of ages and we had lots of fun and lively chatter!
    Hugs

  10. Dear Barbara - what a lovely visit I had seeing your spring flowers. We are still waiting here - so for us I think spring may not arrive for another couple of weeks. I so love the Edwardian Lady. Have enjoyed both books of hers. You are so right the illustrations are lovely. Well take care friend and enjoy your first days of spring. Hugs!

  11. Your daffodils are lovely, they are a flower that always makes my smile. I so looked forward to the first ones that bloomed after the snow melted when we lived in New England. It seems strange living in Florida, a place that garden wise doesn't have much change in seasons.

  13. Dear Barbara, What a beautiful post this is! I love the mix of the flowers with the pretty book pages. I've recently been thinking a lot about science and art because that is the theme of an upcoming local art show to which I'm submitting a work...
Thanks for visiting my blog, which I'm so happy to be resuming. I love how you create, appreciate and are surrounded by beauty. Then you share it here, and with your visitors in France ...Bon printemps, R.
