New Year and New Thoughts.

How have you started off the new year 2013 ?
I'm full of new thoughts and new ideas for making changes for this year.

A few years ago we put our property up for sale, and then house prices dropped, so we forgot about selling. Now after a family get together and listening to the thoughts from our son and daughter, we feel now is the time  to try selling again  and move on to pastures new.

My mind is working overtime thinking about painting everywhere white and to 'declutter'  as the TV house  programme advise.

Hubby was away yesterday and I spent the afternoon browsing through some of my favourite magazines to give me some ideas and inspiration.

Whenever we bought property we didn't bother about the decor, it could easily be changed. We looked at the size of the rooms & how that could be changed if needed, then the view. Now however the agents  seem to want it all spic & span.

Have a peep at some ideas I found which would certainly fit into the style of our home as it is and we already have lots of pieces similar to some of these, which if given a coat of paint could give the room a whole new look.

What do you look for in a property when you are wanting to buy another house ?

I'd love to hear some of your points of view, it might save us repainting everywhere !

A bientot.

  1. Hi Barbara, those are really pretty spaces. It definitely helps to have a neutral palette when selling a home, as it makes it easier for the homeowner to visualize their belongings in the space. And as you mentioned, decluttering goes a long, long way, probably even more than the painting, because it makes the rooms look bigger. Good luck on this new adventure. I don't envy you!

  2. A neutral palette is indeed what you are looking for and decluttering also.
I will be the first to have to remove personal objects..family photos etc:)

  3. Hello Barbara, it's a pleasure to meet you.
We too, tried to sell our home a few years ago.
We have decided to stay for now. Your home is lovely.
Neutral colors are great, when trying to sell a home.
Like a few other bloggers suggested, also removing personal photos.
A lovely front porch with flowers and a nice welcome mat.
Good luck from your newest follower.

  4. Good Afternoon Barbara, Happy New Year to you. Where are you hoping to move, are you staying in France?
I have to say decluttering is a good tip. Sounds awful doesn't it, but when we sold our home, I cleared lots of items and boxed them up, we painted areas which we thought needed it and we sold our house within the week, we had 4 buyers who were interested. I know it sounds odd to say that some people cannot visualize a home with other people's items in it, but it is true.
Good luck, I hope it all runs smoothly for you.
    Best Wishes Daphne

  5. It's my experience too that a clean sweep is required. People have little imagination but they want to see their things en place - bring on the whitewash a toute de suite et Bon chance! Xcarolg

  6. Hi Barbara..all of them lovely images.
I have found to sell a home is:
    *clean and fresh.
    *clean, neutral walls.
*no odours like stuffy bathrooms, mouldy rooms etc.
*remove personal stuff. Makes potential buys feel like intruders and hesitant to look.
*clean, kept garden. Remove brocante stuff. Not everybody enjoyes old metal lying around.

these are my experiences. hope they help.
